Hi Everyone,
July 27-31, 2020 would have been our day camp week. While we are unable to officially have day camp, we wanted to give you some ideas of some activities to do this week (or any time) to help you feel in the camping/outdoor spirit.

Practice starting a fire in your own backyard. Make sure you have an adult present and follow saty rules.
Explore cooking over a fire, cooking in a box oven, and some other fun cooking ideas.
Work on the Outdoor Art badges.
Try some new crafts.
In the spirit of our Thursday night campfire and sleepover try having a campfire at home and sleep in a tent in your backyard.

Box ovens are a fun way to bake outdoors. The following YouTube video is one way you could make a box oven. Make sure you have do not cover your ventilation holes.
The box ovens we use at camp only have 5 sides. We lay foil on the ground, then the hot coals on top and tip the box upside down. Make sure you have ventilation holes. I find the ventilation holes work best that are near the ground.
Try baking your favorite cake or something new.
Here is a fun idea to use you box oven. Watch this video to help you make some box oven cookies.

Watch this YouTube video to see how to cook a complete meal over the fire: foil dinner, dough boys and peach dessert.
If you have a pie iron at home here are some fun ideas of what you can cook in it.
Cooking eggs over the fire can be a fun experiment. Watch this video and then try some fun exploring cooking ideas.
Boiling water in a paper cup is not necessarily a very useful skill, but it can be kind of fun just to prove that you can do it, Watch this video and then give it a try.

Check out this web site for several outdoor cooking recipes. Have fun and enjoy! Most of these show cooking over a grill, but you can just as easily cook them over a fire. Please post your successes (and failures) to our BLSU Day Camp Facebook Page.
These are the badges we thought we would work on if we would have had a virtual camp. Why don't you check your age appropriate badge out and work on it at home.
